During Term 2 in Italian, the children have enjoyed to learn colours in Italian along with greetings, functional language and more counting.

Learning the “Pesciolino” song whilst learning colours has been a highlight and we have had lots of fun singing it together in class. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3B68C_lj5_E

This year the Foundation students have been learning lots of things about our school iPads.

We have learned about

  • computers and iPads (Micah)
  • playing games like ArtMaker (Griffin & Tia)
  • Photos and videos (Isla)
  • Swiping away the apps (Joshua) because we don’t want people to see what we have done (Micah) and we don’t want to waste battery (Griffin)
  • Drawing (Laila)

The students have all worked hard with using apps such as Strip Designer and ChatterPix Kids to add photos, videos, stickers and voice recordings to their projects. Below are some examples of their work using the Strip Designer app. The aim of the project was to share their names, photos and a few of their favourite things!

It was a busy week last week with Mrs Green also organising a Dance workshop for us.

Tremendous focus and concentration was required by all, as we tried to learn the dance routine and master the steps.

It was great fun and proved that many students loved the opportunity to shine as a dancer.

We finished off with some deep belly breathing to help us cool down and relax.

Last week we attempted to have our Jump Rope for Heart ‘Jump Off’ multi age activity but unfortunately the weather was not kind to us.

So… all the classes went out at alternate times to skip and show their prowess at skipping tricks. The students have really loved learning to skip with Mrs. Livingstone.

Some action shots are below!

Literacy: Reading

In the Foundation classrooms we have begun to build independent reading skills by introducing personal book boxes. These boxes contain books that are a ‘good fit’ for each student.

During Reading sessions the students may spend time ‘Reading to Self’

Or they may ‘Read to Someone’. Of all the choices children participate in, Read to Someone is often their favorite. Reading with someone helps readers, especially developing readers, increase areas of comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and prosody.  It also increases reading involvement, attention, and collaboration. What’s more, children love partner reading and readily participate with books they choose.

After learning about the events of Holy Week and Easter our focus moved onto the students being introduced to the story of Pentecost Sunday when the Holy Spirit came to Jesus’ disciples.

This learning connected well to the Foundation students learning more about when our Year Six buddies received the Sacrament of Confirmation last week at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

The Foundation students have really enjoyed viewing this clip and learning this song:
