This term we have been learning about using a ‘ten frame’.

We know lots about a ‘ten frame’ and made a class chart to help us remember our new learning.

Ten Frame Anchor Chart...LOVE this! #math #teaching repinned by stowedstuff.com:

We have used ten sided dice to play games with our ten frame and counters. It has been lots of fun too.

Literacy: Writing

In class this term our Writing has begun with a focus on writing Procedural texts.

We have looked at many and discussed the features of this type of text (eg. title, goal, steps in order, illustrations to match). It is interesting to find many different procedural texts that we use in everyday life; recipes, instructions on how to play a game, how to build a Lego model, etc.

Some students have begun to compose their own texts and are remembering that it is important to write a command, action word or verb at the start of each step.

This term our unit of Inquiry is called, “Should I Help?’  The students are learning that people have enterprising attributes which can help them in their everyday lives. They are also learning how people can use their enterprising attributes to help others.

We began our learning by sharing the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’ and students shared their observations with the class and discussed the following questions:

  • Highlight a time when the characters showed initiative
  • Which enterprising attribute did The Little Red Hen use to the best effect?
  • What did she do to build teamwork?

Musical instruments on white background

What a fun term we had as the students sang songs together and danced and moved to a variety of music. They practised keeping a steady beat and rhythm and learned about pitch and tempo. The students were introduced to some percussion instruments as we spoke about their names and how each of them they can be played, and they enjoyed experimenting and creating fun sounds and rhythms with them. They listened well to each other and worked happily together in pairs and as a class group. We’re now looking forward to learning through mime, movement and improvisation in Drama and Dance in Term Two.

The children loved listening to the story ‘Ecco Pinocchio!’ and joining in with the story and songs. They also got to make Pinocchio’s face out of paper plates and were able to make his ‘naso’ grow during the story. Colouring in Pinocchio’s occhi, bocca and naso was also lots of fun.image image
