During Term 2 the Foundation students have enjoyed learning their numbers to 10 in Italian and their colours. They have learnt to sing ‘Uno, due, tre indiani’ and ‘ Farfallina’. They have also completed lots of fun colouring activities to reinforce their colours in Italian.image image image

This term the Foundation students were learning not only to choose the primary colours of Blue, Red and Yellow but also to mix them and make secondary colours.

They used a on-line paint machine that mixed up buckets of paint to create, greens, orange, purple to colour in their templates.

Klimt Quilts

In Visual Arts we have been looking at some of the art of Gustav Klimt. We talked about the colours, patterns and techniques used. We noticed that a lot of gold leaf was used in his art and we tried to include some tones of this in our work. First of all we painted the background using gold metallic paint. Next we generated some ideas for patterns on the “blanket” of the piece e.g swirls, triangles, zigzags, circles, lines etc. We painted these onto another piece of paper using coloured paints. When it was dry, we added a black outline and dotted white paint along this outline. Next, we painted a small area of green and added some flowers. We assembled all our pieces and the final step was to add our sleeping photo. Voila!

Our Museum of Family Artefacts

On Thursday, 4th June, we held our Museum of Family Artefacts. The Preps all brought along artefacts which are connected with their families. The Preps had to choose the artefact about which they would like to discover information and then they had to talk about it with family members to find out the answers to three questions: What was it? To whom did it belong?  Why was it important to the family?

On Thursday morning, each student attached a descriptive label to their item and set up their exhibit. (A big “Thank you” to Kristy and Sarah for their wonderful help.) They donned their “Museum Guide” badges and the museum was declared “Open!”

The visitors began to arrive at 11.30 and soon the museum was abuzz! The Prep students did an amazing job of explaining about their artefact. Many visitors also enjoyed some time in the cinema area viewing a slide show about our trip to Como House. They also took time to make a guess about our mystery object too!

Our little museum guides were exhausted by closing time, but were delighted with the interest shown by all the visitors. Thank you to all those who participated in this special experience.
