Making MusicWhat a fun term we had as the students sang songs together and danced and moved to a variety of music. They practised keeping a steady beat and rhythm, learned about pitch (high and low) and dynamics (loud and soft). They read simple musical notation and enjoyed experimenting and creating fun sounds with our percussion instruments. They listened to each other and worked happily together. We’re looking forward to learning through mime, movement, improvisation and role-play in Drama next term.

In Italian the foundation students have had lots of fun making their Pinocchio puppets after reading the story ‘Ecco Pinocchio’. With moveable arms and legs they were able to make Pinocchio say ‘Ciao Papa. Ciao, ciao!’ as he does in the story. They were also able to answer the question ‘Come stai?’ using the answers molto been, cosi cosi and male with their puppets.

Learning the the songs ‘Ciao, Buongiorno’ and ‘La Canzone Di Geppetto’ have also been enjoyable for everyone!image image

With smart phones and tablets, children in their first year of school have come armed with a different mindset. They want to swipe everything, including pieces of paper.

For some foundation students, learning how to use a mouse proved a bit of a challenge. Most computer mice these days have a right click, left click and a scroll button and not to mention dragging. – All overwhelming for small hands that are use to swiping. But logging on and navigating through programs becomes second nature, all in the space of 7-9 weeks. We worked with Paint which is a great outlet for young students who love to draw, add shapes, colour and line. We are shortly moving on to mouse games where clicking and dragging skills are exercised.
MS paint is available free on PC’s.

In Physical Education we have been touching a ball 300 times.  We can pass the ball around our head, around our waist and around our ankles.  We can bounce the ball in our right hand, our left hand and also crossovers. We can throw the ball in the air, clap and catch the ball.  We can bounce the ball against a wall and catch it.  We are learning to bounce pass the ball to a partner and also pass the ball between our fingertips.  Our challenge is to throw the ball in the air, ‘heal’ the ball with the palm of our hand and then catch it again.

On Saturday, 14th March, St Anne’s held its annual Strawberry Fair. There was so much to see and do! We asked the students about what they did and what they liked about it. Here are some of their responses. Thank you Ted, Jessica, Jade and Charli!

We have been learning about Jesus, the Good Shepherd. We read and viewed the story of the good shepherd (John 10:3-5) who protects his sheep and knows them by name. Jesus is like the good shepherd because he loves and protects each one of us.

We are bucket fillers!

During the first few weeks of the term, we have been learning about the importance of being a bucket filler. We have talked about how we all have an invisible bucket that can be filled by kind words and actions, such as sharing, smiling, helping and thanking. We made a list of all the ways that we can be bucket fillers. We also talked about bucket dipping behaviors that hurt our relationships with each other. When we fill other peoples’ buckets, we fill our own bucket too.

With our Year 6 buddies, we also talked about the ways that we can fill buckets. We made some folded paper buckets and on each one we wrote one way that we can be a bucket filler.

A Special Visitor

Last week we had a special visitor.  Elliot’s dad, Ben, came to visit us at school with two rainbow lorikeets. One was named Abby Cadabby and the other was called Elmo. Elliot told us all about what the birds ate and how he and his family care for them. When Ben put Elmo on top of the cage, Elmo would fly right onto his hand! It was wonderful to learn all about Elliot’s special pets.

In class we have all enjoyed reading the big book, Mrs Wishy Washy.

We loved watching all the farm animals jump into the mud!

We really enjoyed learning this song about Mrs Washy Washy.
